I’m not disingenuous in this post or subsequent comments.

I wasn’t throwing stones. I don’t live in a glass house. I was merely stating fact.

Thanks for your comments, though, Councillor. As a busy public servant (committed as you are as deputy convenor of the Green group on Brighton and Hove City Council), I am humbled that my minor blog should be worthy of your concern not once, but twice.

I don’t think I attack anyone in this post. I do make some accurate notes regarding some facts, however.

To answer your question: obviously the names do mean something to me. I have met Simon several times. I don’t know Warren.

Dan, I wouldn’t be so quick to attack Green cllrs who are/have been on the party payroll – do the names ‘Warren Morgan’ and ‘Simon Burgess’ mean anything to you?

Totally agree. The winner-takes-it-all system makes it very hard to make concrete achievements unless you are the governing party. But equally, Green coucillors have been part of Brighton and Hove council for more than a decade. There must be something we can celebrate, regardless of party allegiance?

And moreover new Green Goldsmid councillor Alex Phillips has been very clear: “It’s a ringing endorsement of Green policies and the work of Green councillors locally.”

My question remains: what actually have the Greens done for Brighton and Hove?

Very nice and balanced analysis. But asking what exactly the Greens have achieved “after so many years on the city council” is perhaps a little unfair on them. It is very hard for any party outside of a council administration to achieve anything concrete. Opposition parties are more likely to achieve something the more ‘co-operative’ a council is, but then they are less likely to be able (or to want) to claim it, as it will have been achieved with cross-party support.

But the Pavilion GE contest will certainly be very interesting this time.
