The problem with comparing private schools to state schools is that the average state school is compared to such as Dulwich, Eton, or Harrow. Cameron and Gove should start looking at the other end of the private sector. It is clear from the overall GCSE results that some private schools are absolutely appalling and would not be allowed to survive in the state sector.

That said, I agree with the article. Teachers from the private sector would indeed find it tough going in the state sector, which necessarily pick up those rejected by the private sector.

More than ever I feel that our government, with a cabinet consisting of privately educated millionaires cannot help but be totally out of touch. For the public to support through the tax breaks for an insular and elitist place like Eton, with 100 million or so in investments is just immoral.

I decided a while ago to ignore absolutely everything Cameron (and Gove) said about education (along with a few other things) until he undertook to fund state schools at the same level as his alma mater.

Thanks for confirming my decision!
