People often ask me for an example of a successful online community. Many expect me to rattle off Myspace, Flickr or Youtube… but I usually cite www.moneysavingexpert.com.
For my money, in a specifically British context, the work that Martyn Lewis and his team do is really awe inspiring. Moneysavingexpert.com has a simple aim: consumer revenge. It’s a source of extraordinary expertise and knowledge all helping you save a few bob.
Here’s an example of some of the great content available: insight from bank workers about the sales targets they’re set. Quelle surprise, they don’t always have your best financial interests at heart.
Active forums, a good blog and a brilliant newsletter (and they don’t spam you!) make www.monyesavingexpert.com a brilliant community to be part of. I heartily recommend you have a look.
Very interesting thread. It rather reminds me of the bad old days when I sold insurance. Endowment mortgages get you several hundred quid; repayment mortgages get you almost zilch; both involve the same amount of work. Is anyone surprised that endowments got sold more often?!
